Annotation

During World War 1 in France, an Australian soldier finds a lost dog and hopes to make him a mascot back in the trenches. A young French boy explains the dog is his, but that both are without a home, as orphanages do not accept dogs. The soldier then takes both boy and dog as mascots.  The illustrations in picture book capture both time and place with feeling.
