Trung's mother and little sister are left behind in Vietnam. His journey to Australia, in a crowded fishing boat, is dangerous and frightening. His estranged father is unable to offer much comfort. Once in Australia, Trung is faced with many unfamiliar cultural traditions. Life is better when Trung befriends Andrew, and a letter arrives from his mother in Vietnam.
