Annotation

In this picture book, when the children visit Nana, they puzzle over her Greek age-old tradition of giving them ‘invisible’ protection called ‘skorda’, the Greek word for garlic. Along with pronouncing ‘skorda’ comes three fake spitting motions. The author was born in Egypt to Greek parents, then came to live in Australia, adding authenticity.
