Annotation
The author was inspired to capture an important time in history. She read about a small collection of stuffed toys made by Polish women in the German Belsen concentration camp in World War II. The toys were created for an anticipated celebration and liberation of those imprisoned. It is a topic seemingly impossible to convey in a picture book, yet both author and illustrator have captured the preparations and emotions involved in this momentous occasion. Two historical quotes included in the book authenticate this work of fiction.
