Antigone Kefala was born in Romania of Greek parents. The family emigrated to New Zealand then Kefala later moved to Australia. The Alien is the author’s first poetry collection which revolves around experiences of alienation and difference, and the problems of language and meaning. Her work is considered an important voice on the migrant experience in modern Australia.
