Nine-year-old Miju and her older brother, have come to the NSW gold fields in the 1850s against their will. They hope to earn enough money to return home to their village in China. Sam’s family hopes to make their fortune too on the goldfields. Racial conflict between the Chinese and Europeans underlies this story that ends with an understanding of what is important in life.
