The Serpent’s Tale
Set in the Middle Ages, this picture book involves a young boy who buys a talisman which conjures up tales of fear and woe, love and hate, heroism and cowardice, wealth and loss. Crew’s use of the serpent talisman suggests humans’ continuing engagement with war and destruction over time. Both story and illustrations provoke open-ended discussion.
