Annotation
Senior and emerging Arrernte educators collaborate in this picture book to teach children about the rhythms and patterns of country. ‘We know we’re close to water when … we hear the zebra finches sing.’ The first page lists the things that give us warnings, or signs, in both Arrernte and English, for example, when rain will fall, whether winter will be long or short and how we know summer is coming. This attractive book is beautifully illustrated by Arrernte artists.
This book offers an interesting alternate way to look at the natural environment and could be incorporated into science lessons across the year levels.
