- Adventure stories
With its simple conversational text and naïve illustrations, this is an easy-to-read story about playing with siblings and solving problems. The text captures the patois of Aboriginal kids from North Queensland, while the child-like illustrations are both colourful and evocative. Written by a teenager drawing on his own experiences, At the Creek with My Bro tells the story of two adventurous boys who get stuck in a flash flood and help one another get out of trouble.
This small-format picture book is part of an initiative by Black Ink Press and librarians at the Thuringowa Library in Townsville to encourage young Indigenous students to find their voice.
