‘Back on Country’ beautifully celebrates the first time Lucy and David travel with their mother to meet their cousins and Elders back on Country. They listen to new songs and stories, visit places of significance to their ancestors, learn about their kinship, and create their own special painting. This picture book joyfully illuminates connection to Country and family, told through the viewpoint of two young children. This engaging story is told with warmth, inviting young readers to embark on a journey of learning, playing, and connecting with culture. The illustrations further enhance the narrative, with warm bright colours evoking the richness and beauty of the Australian landscape.

Together with the other two books in the Welcome to Our Country series, this book is designed to initiate conversation with children about First Nations history, and the enduring strength of First Nations culture.
The endpapers include a visual glossary of words from the Adnyamathanha people of the Flinders Ranges in South Australia.

Adam Goodes is an Adnyamathanha and Narungga man, community leader, and former Australian Rules footballer. David Hardy is a Barkindji man, author and artist.
