This is a collection of traditional Wongutha (Wongi) teaching stories from the Eastern Goldfields region of Western Australia. It contains four previously published works and a pronunciation glossary for Wongutha words used in the text.
May O’Brien was born in the area but spent 12 years at the Mount Margaret Mission from the age of five. She became the first female Aboriginal teacher in Western Australia, going on to help establish Aboriginal committees on education and working on the first report into Aboriginal education. Her contribution was acknowledged in 1977 when she received the British Empire Medal for work in Aboriginal education.
