Annotation
Old Stephen predicts “Big rain coming,” on Sunday, when he sees storm clouds rolling in from the south. But over the course of the week the rains fail to come. The kids have to drag their mattresses outside to get some breeze to sleep. The dogs dig a dust hole to keep themselves cool. The green frogs congregate near the tank.
This book has vivid figurative illustrations incorporating traditional Indigenous motifs and designs into the representation of the land and the creatures on it, all patiently waiting for rain. Until, finally…
The story is inspired by the author's time teaching in the remote community of Minyerri in the Northern Territory. The illustrator is a Bundjalung woman and artist who has illustrated and/or written over forty books.
