Annotation
Bungaroo is a name commonly used by the Nadjan, Djirubal and Yidnji people of Far North Queensland for a turtle. Bip the snapping bungaroo happily lives by a billabong along with kangaroos, echidnas, emus and other animals, all of whom are impressed by the little turtle’s loud and reassuring ‘snap’ as he goes about his day. Each animal character is defined by intricate patterns that also reference traditional dot art in Fielding’s stunning and vividly-coloured black-outlined acrylic illustrations. An engaging read-aloud about friendship and self-esteem written by Narelle McRobbie, of Pacific Island and Aboriginal background, descended from the Nadjan and Yidinji peoples and illustrated by artist, Grace Fielding, who was raised at Wandering Mission, south east of Perth, Western Australia.
