This striking book with rich, colourful illustrations and very clear and simple text, is a perfect introduction to counting and to Australian native animals. In a sometimes light-hearted way, it introduces very young children to the animals and birds they might be able to find in their own backyard.

Bronwyn Houston, who wrote and illustrated the book, is descended from the Nyiyaparli and Yindijibarndi people in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. Her own garden in Broome, where she lives, was the inspiration for the book and she has also drawn inspiration from the natural world of the Kimberley region, where she was born.
