This debut picture book from Paul Seden brings his own experiences of crabbing and fishing to the story. A little girl and her brother go in a boat up a creek with their father to catch crabs. They imagine all the different kinds of fish swimming beneath their boat and watch other family members undertaking different gathering activities along the shore. There is a strong sense of both family and place in the book.
The illustrations and layout emphasise the feeling of adventure and excitement, particularly when the crabbing is successful. The importance of family and togetherness is strong. The author, who has also illustrated the book, is a descendant of the Wuthathi and Muralag peoples of North Queensland.
