This is a highly illustrated nonfiction picture book guide to the creatures and trees that live in the rainforest of far north Queensland. Each double page spread features one animal, such as an echidna, cassowary or green ant, with a short factual paragraph about it. The text also includes detail about the cultural and historical significance of the animal to the local Djabugay people, including its usage in food and medicines. Each animal/plant name is provided in English and Djabugay.
Short snippets of text in both languages describe each illustration. The bright and bold Indigenous artwork clearly depicts each animal and plant in a natural or abstract setting. It comprises hand-coloured lino prints and acrylic paintings by Warren Brim, a Djabugay man who grew up on the Dreamtime stories of his family in Kuranda, and Anna Eglitis, a North Queensland painter, printmaker and teacher.
