Having met Reg and Beg Hairy Holers living in and about Australia and learnt of their encounter with Joplin, a human or ‘skinny’ as the Hairy Holers call them, it appears that Joplin’s visit and introduction of the Internet and social media has caused some dissent between the brothers.

In a hilarious send-up of the worse excesses of social media, Beg has become very passionate about his ‘socials’. He knows he has followers and likes but no friend requests.

Unbeknown to Beg there is someone plying their keyboard in seeking to know the Hairy Holers. Ned (aka Crypt hunter 19) is trying to prove that supernatural beings such as the Hairy Holers do exist and this has brought him to the attention of a rather dubious government agency led by the even more dubious Lieutenant Major Bartholomew Tuxedo (aka Major Bart Tux) who has become overly interested in Ned’s new online friend.

An expedition ensues following the clues provided by certain social media posts and the eventual capture of one of the Hairy Holers, but which one? This is a story to be continued ….

There is lots of humour and originality in the artistic depiction of the two brothers especially their engagement with social media. Sophistication is not their style, but they are very funny. These would be great for reluctant readers with their easy-to-read style. As with Book 1, Book 2 also ends on a cliffhanger of even more diabolical proportions than Book 1.

Brenton E McKenna, locally known by his middle name, ‘Eszra’, is a respected Yawuru artist based out of Broome, WA, who found a passion for comic books in his youth. His passion ultimately led to him to become one of the world’s most coveted First Nations graphic novelists
