In June 2015, the Indigenous Literacy Foundation brought author/illustrator Sally Morgan (a descendant from the Palku people of the Pilbara) and illustrator Ann James (from Melbourne) together with a group of 12 primary- school students from Tjuntjuntjara, Mt Margaret, Menzies and Melbourne. They held a 5-day writing and illustrating camp on Spinifex Country near the Great Victoria Desert area of Western Australia.
The illustrated stories they produced at the camp were made into this book. There are stories of friendship and loyalty, experiments that go badly wrong, a battle over a dinosaur bone, a mysterious bowl and also a scary goanna which features on the front cover. This was an enriching shared love of storytelling and illustrating for adults and children alike. The purposeful cultural exchange for everyone is reflected in the texts and related illustrations.
