Annotation
This is a very gentle picture book, following the journey of the Wonderful Whisper as it passes through the sky, past the Moon, the Sun, the Clouds, the Sea and finally to the Earth. Each of these has something to say to the Wonderful Whisper about the characteristics it will possess, a characteristic in common with each. Once the Wonderful Whisper reached the land, all the animals of the world lifted their heads to hear it, and journeyed to see who this Whisper could be. Who is it? It is you!
The illustrations are soft watercolour in Pignataro's signature style. They proceed in a series of double page spreads, and their muted palette matches perfectly with the gentle nature of the story. 'The Wonderful Whisper' starts out as a mere spark in the darkness, and slowly gathers form and figure until it is recognisably a baby, then a toddler. Ezekiel Kwaymullina is from the Palyku people of the Pilbara region of Western Australia.
