Annotation
The Indigenous culture of the peoples of the Uluru region, collectively called the Anangu, is explored in excellent photographic images and text throughout this book. The author/photographer spent time with and learned from the people of the area and the book has the approval of the communities concerned. Note that since this book was published, the climbing of Uluru by tourists has been discontinued.
Aspects of the environment, the flora and fauna, the cultural traditions such as legends and the knowledge of bush foods are all shown. Several elders and families are shown undertaking various activities such digging for witchetty grubs, tracking and traditionally burning the land. (Please note that this book contains images of elders who may have passed away, including renowned wood sculptor Billy Wara who died in 2008.)
