‘We Share’ is a small and colourful book filled with photos of children, their families and their creations from the Koorie playgroups of Darebin and Melton. Each double page spread begins with the words ‘We share ....’ The beautiful full-page photos show children and their families wrapped in possum skin cloaks with an explanation of how they share. As the back cover explains, ‘The possum skin cloaks become a symbol of culture, belonging and identity ....’ Also included are original art works by the children. This Kids’ Own Publishing book would be a good launch for groups, classes or families to create their own books about their community. Also included is the word ‘Wominjeka’ which means ‘Welcome’ in the Woiwurrung language.
This is one of a series of small books created by Kids’ Own Publishing (in partnership with other groups) that give young people the opportunity to publish their own books about their lives. The photographs and colour throughout the book have a warm community feel and would appeal to young children and their families.
