Annotation
‘Welcome, Child!’ Is a warm-hearted board book designed for reading to the very young. With its strong design elements and colourful illustrations, it has great child appeal, and would be perfect for parents and carers looking for a welcome-to-the-world book for babies.
The front cover invites the reader in, with its pastel colours, clever design, child friendly size and the smiling face of an Indigenous child. Morgan’s patterned images draw the eye across the pages, which are alive with movement and character, including a smiling sun and glorious dancing flowers.
Morgan’s interactive text celebrates the arrival of a new child, as the stars, the sun, the birds, the flowers and the hearts of those around them rejoice. The text is addressed directly to the child, which makes it perfect for bedtime reading or for read-aloud sessions in child-care settings.
Sally Morgan is a well-known Aboriginal author and artist, who wrote the seminal ‘My Place’. She belongs to the Palyku people from the eastern Pilbara region of Western Australia.
