This fictional story is based on war breaking out in the Middle East, with those from other countries advised to leave. Adam is a Western Australian who sneaks off to find his dog and meets Walid, an abused camel boy, left to die. Told in alternating first person, the two boys survive through supporting each other. Though their language and culture are different and prejudices and misunderstandings occur, their common humanity brings them together.
