The time is during the Cambodian-Vietnamese Conflict between 1977 and 1991. Channeary must flee for her life when the Khmer Rouge attack her small Cambodian fishing village. She finally reaches safety in a Buddhist monastery in Thailand. There she is offered a chance to come to Tasmania, a new land and a new home, both unknown.
