Hotaka and his school friends are devastated by an earthquake in Japan, followed by a tsunami. Based on actual events in March 2011, these terrible times allow readers to experience the havoc such catastrophes create and to feel the frustration when little progress is made to speed recovery. Japanese culture features strongly with the friendship between the three children revealing their support for each other and ongoing battle against a corrupt government.
