This is the true story of Saroo Brierley who was lost on a train in India when he was just five years old. After surviving on the streets for weeks, he was taken to an orphanage and eventually adopted by an Australian family. Saroo always wondered about his family and where he was from. Incredibly after 25 years of searching using paper maps and Google Earth, Saroo found a place he was familiar with, his home town. He eventually travelled there and was reunited with his mother. In 2017 Saroo’s story was made into an award-winning film called ‘Lion’ and starring Nicole Kidman, Dev Patel and David Wenham. This beautifully illustrated picture book captures the details of the Saroo’s two cultures. The final page gives more information about Kolkata and the many street children that live in India.
