A young boy, Razaq Nadeem, is orphaned by an earthquake in Pakistan. His dying father tells him to flee to Rawalpindi, where his uncle Kamil lives. Life is chaotic there. He attends a school set up by aid workers for the homeless, learns some English and helps with the younger boys, but is sold into slavery by a man preying on orphans in the area. Desperate, he heads for the streets, only to be betrayed and returned. The story of his journey is dramatic, topical and realistic but also has hope.
