Kobald, an Austrian-Australian author, creates young Cartwheel’s story as a new refugee arriving in Australia. Cartwheel ‘wraps herself’ in a metaphorical blanket of comforting memories as she gradually learns new words and cultural traditions through her Australian friend. Through this friendship, she ‘weaves’ herself a ‘new blanket’ as the two cultures and their ‘colours’ mingle in this moving picture book.
