Felix is now living in post-war Poland, but times are hard with violence and theft everyday events. With his usual positive attitude, Felix believes that at some point the world will become a safe and happy place again. Gleitzman draws young readers into this dark but ultimately hopeful world not only through the characters who are intensely real, but also through a fascination with the times that come alive for the reader.
