Soraya is a 12-year-old Afghan refugee who comes to Australia by boat with her family. There they are put in the Woomera detention centre with temporary protection visas that expire in three years. The experience of being displaced from one’s own culture due to the Taliban terrorism is sensitively revealed. The novel expresses the fear of not knowing the future.
