Taj is very excited to be a camel handler on explorer Ernest Giles’ second attempt to cross the desert from Port Augusta in South Australia to Perth in Western Australia. He is working with his father, an Afghan camel handler, as he develops strong bonds with him. Taj learns a lot in this strong adventure story based on real events from May-November, 1875. The characters in this book first appeared in her picture book, Mustara, illustrated by Robert Ingpen.
