This is a story of Australia’s Colonial history and that of Lachlan Macquarie as the Governor of New South Wales. His story also includes how Australia’s society developed and ongoing social issues such as the emergence of cultural diversity.  Macquarie’s achievements and weaknesses are outlined including his behaviour towards the Australian Aborigines. Some individuals in important positions had convict backgrounds, adding interest. Readers are encouraged to question the ideas prevalent at the time. In this picture book, the images are produced on porcelain tile and are highly detailed and appealing.
