Jackie French creates a series of moving short poems for this picture book which recalls relationships between those engaged in wartime conflicts. Those at home are waiting for their family members to return. The book is ‘about the joy of reunion and the enduring power of love’. Some of the conflicts included are World War I and II, Korean and Vietnam Wars, Indonesian conflict, Gulf Wars, Timor-Leste and others. Anne Spudvillas’ artwork is highly evocative and captures the emotions of those away in conflicts and those waiting at home for their family members to return.
