Yoko Moriwaki’s diary entries during the World War II period 1939-1945 reveal her hopes, beliefs and daily life just as she is starting secondary school in Hiroshima. Her diary reveals children as young as twelve working in industry while fierce battles raged in the Pacific and children like Yoko believed victory was near. Ham, as editor, adds explanatory material such as rationing, Yoko’s family tree, maps of Japan and Hiroshima in 1945. Stylised Japanese artwork adds authenticity.
