The magnifying glass on the jacket cover and the endpapers straight away give clues that in this book readers will need to look closely. This is a book about animal camouflage, something many animals large and small use to help them survive, find food and avoid being eaten. Survival is all important and camouflage helps attract mates, protect eggs and the young or warn of danger nearby.
There are a number of ways animals employ camouflage. They may change their colour, or their shape or their pattern markings. They may use these to disappear into their surroundings. In this book we see all this, butterflies indistinguishable from leaves or stick insects that look exactly like sticks or branches. Whilst the book concentrates on smaller creatures, there are birds and fish to seek out amongst the intricate illustrations.
