Eve Pownall’s Wish List
Eve (Marjory Evelyn) Pownall was born in Sydney, New South Wales in 1901. She was a vigorous advocate for Australian authors and was a founding member of the Children’s Book Council of Australia (1954).
Eve was a much-awarded author and historian. She was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire in 1978 and in 1981 she was the winner of The Lady Cutler Award for Distinguished services to Children’s Literature in New South Wales. The Children’s Book Council of Australia has named the information category of its annual awards in Eve’s honour: The Eve Pownall Award
Lu Rees MBE was a friend, college and correspondent of Eve Pownall MBE. As a result of this relationship, the National Centre holds an enormous correspondence and clipping file on Eve. It also holds a significant number of her titles in its collection. Missing from this collection are the two titles listed below:
