Annotation
A deceptively simple board book designed to lead a child to see and feel the possibilities above and beyond their immediate world. The text is rich with positive and empowering words and phrases such as strong, high and dream, words that encourage a child to see and believe in themselves and what they can do, for example, ‘I can speak up like a wise bird’.
The bright pastel toned illustrations use simple shapes and patterns and each double page spread centres the child, a girl viewing the world around her and satisfying herself that she is at its heart. Each page encourages the child to be proud, to stand up for themselves and to follow their dreams and understand that they are unique, important and special just as they are. It is a celebration of the present and the future of each and every child.
Sally Morgan is one of Australia’s best-known artists and writers. She belongs to the Palyku people from the eastern Pilbara region of Western Australia.
