The ‘Anti-Racism Kit’ was developed for high school students but it is a valuable tool for everyone regardless of age, culture or social group.
Its aim is to provide an understanding of racism and racial justice in Australia. The book highlights that it is not enough to ‘not be racist’ but rather we should work towards dismantling the racism, often engrained and unnoticed, that exists in our community. We need to be anti-racist and build a fairer and better world both locally and universally.
The book presents three areas for change – Self, School and Society. The book starts with the basics defining areas such as ‘people of colour’ and types of racism then moves to the three areas with information to address racism and to help individuals, schools and society become anti-racist.
At the end of the book there is a glossary of terms used in the book. The book is an eye-opening exploration of anti-racism and racial justice centring around the lives and personal experiences of many young adults. A useful text for explaining and understanding the impact of overt and covert racism in our community.
