Medals & Awards

The National Centre holds a collection of medals and awards given to writers, illustrators and others associated with our collections. Of particular interest researchers are the awards and medals that were presented to Lu Rees.

Lucy “Lu” Rees was made a Member of the British Empire (MBE) in 1964 for services to literature.  Shortly before she died she was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for services to Australian Children’s Literature.  In February 1983 she was posthumously awarded the Dromkeen Medal for services to children’s literature by The Dromkeen Children’s Literature Collection.  The Rees family presented the medals to be held in the National Centre in June 2005.

The NCACL is delighted to hold medals and awards on behalf of the following creators:

Hesba Brinsmead
Lu Rees
Narelle Oliver
